CIRAD has partnered with four Caribbean Agricultural Research institutes (3 Cuban institutes and 1 Institute in the Dominican Republic) to share and acquire knowledge. This cooperation complies with the inter-regional requirements of the CARIBBEAN INTERREG program.

• INISAV 

INISAV (Instituto de Investigaciones de Sanidad Vegetal) is tasked to control diseases of crop plants, and to develop integrated pest management against these diseases. The INISAV is responsible for coordinating the project for Cabaré Cuba. It is involved in all project activities.

• INIVIT 

INIVIT (Instituto de Investigaciones de Viandas Tropicales) develops sustainable culture protocols on major crops in Cuba, particularly on banana and plantain.
Within the framework of the Cabaré project, INIVIT is involved in activities 9, 10, 13 and 14 of Work Packages 3 and 4. In particular, INIVIT is in charge of experiments (fertilization, effectiveness of partial resistance) on hybrids tested as part of the project and the levels of resistance to Black Sigatoka depending on nutritional status.

• IBP

IBP (Instituto de Biotecnologia de Las Plantas) specializes in plant biotechnology. It develops methodologies including mass propagation of plant material and genetic transformation, particularly bananas.
The IBP is involved in activities 9, 10, 13 and 14 of Work Packages 2 and 3 and is responsible specifically for the multiplication of all the plant material used by Cuban partners in the project.

Dominican Republic Institute: IDIAF

• IDIAF

IDIAF’s (Instituto Dominicano de Investigaciones de Agropecuarias y Forestales) mission is to ensure the profitability of food resources in the Dominican Republic. Activities range from health monitoring to the genetic improvement of varieties through the study of new cultural practices.
IDIAF is involved in activities 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 17 of Work Packages 1, 2, 3 and 4.
